In addition to the Ahr valley, the Schleiden valley was also massively affected by the flooding in summer 2021. The Astrid Lindgren School is located directly on the small river Olef. Due to the direct river location, the school was hit massively: Basement rooms were completely flooded and even the ground floor was about 1.30m high under water.

"For many of our students, the individual situation is very stressful right now: they find their home environment completely changed and their school, which often served as a safe haven, is also severely damaged," says Kerstin Mauel. "Right now, we cannot meet the special needs of our often emotionally and socially disadvantaged student body. Among other things, our subject rooms, such as the art room, and also the material depots of various subject groups, were completely flooded. Among them were our Lower School mathematics materials. Only with the help of numerous volunteers, our students, their parents, the Armed Forces and the teaching staff was the school able to be restored to such an extent that classes are scheduled to start in December 2021 with a slight delay."

For us, it is more than natural to support the school with teaching materials worth €2500, in order to bring normality back into the school routine as quickly as possible and to help the students in the best possible way.
